Vari Scholarship/Bursary

The Vari Scholarship/Bursary for Future Teachers

(up to $50,000: $10,000/year for 5 years of study)

Through a very generous donation from the George and Helen Vari Foundation, Victoria College offers an admission award valued at $10,000 to a student who plans to pursue a career in teaching at the primary or secondary level in Ontario.

The award is renewable for three years and for an additional year at the Faculty of Education at the U of T or the final year of the Concurrent Teacher's Education Program (CTEP), for a total value of $50,000. Students must demonstrate excellence in academics (90%+ average), as well as a genuine interest in teaching. Details and application information are sent to Ontario secondary schools each fall.

Submission deadline: February 1st

Application instructions:

Carefully read through the online application before you begin to fill it out.

You will be required to submit your University of Toronto applicant number.  This will be provided in your confirmation notice once you have applied for admission to the University of Toronto.  Please ensure that you select Victoria College as your first choice college in your application for admission.

A personal statement will be required (maximum of 4,000 characters).  It is recommended that you draft your statement ahead of time as the online application does not allow you to save your entries.

All financial values should be rounded up - do not enter decimal values in the application.

Two reference letters will be required: one academic and one non-academic.  Please ensure that your two referees submit their letters by the application deadline.  These may be submitted electronically at vic.awards@utoronto.ca.

Inquiries: please email vic.awards@utoronto.ca.

The 2013 VARI SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION is now closed. (The 2014 application will open in the fall.)

Students interested in education may wish to consider the Egerton Ryerson stream of the Vic One Program, which focuses on education.

Victoria College also offers, in conjunction with the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education (OISE/UT), a Concurrent Teacher Education Program.
