Rebecca Sweetman - October 31,2012 (NF003, 4pm)

Rebecca is the Founding Director of The Paradigm Shift Project, a Canadian charity that creates documentary media to change worldviews.  With over 12 years experience working with grassroots movements for social and environmental justice, Rebecca uses a lens of solidarity in her filmmaking to build trust, connection, and engagement across socioeconomic and geopolitical boundaries.  Her projects are diverse and benefit communities across the globe working for a better and more sustainable future.  Rebecca is also an international public speaker, and has lectured at institutions in Canada, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and TedXValetta in Malta (2011).  From human rights violations in Sumatra's palm oil plantations, to food insecurity in Peru's slums, to street and refugee children in Malaysia, to access to water and human trafficking in India, Rebecca documents the amazing solutions happening on the world's toughest issues, to show that each one of us can, and should, get involved.

The Paradigm Shift Project:
Informing & inspiring social change with grassroots solutions to global issues

PSP is a registered Canadian charity that creates educational documentaries to inspire a shift in how we see and engage in our world.  Founded in 2008, we are a team of global volunteers focused on finding solutions to the world’s toughest social and environmental justice issues to show how each of us can be a part of creating social change.
We connect people around the world to grassroots projects, providing these projects tools and training in how to use film and photography to reach out for support. We feature the work of these NGOs in our films to share their best practices and give them a global audience to support their work.
We also provide educators with new media resources to empower our next generation of global citizens. For each of our films we create an educator’s toolkit of lesson plans, engaging activities and additional resources that directly link to current curricula expectations. These toolkits are available as free downloads from our website.
PSP is a bridge builder between the socioeconomic and geopolitical divisions of our world, a matchmaker between individual donors and grassroots projects, and a free library of grassroots solutions to global issues.
