“On the Importance of Being Sceptical”
Cornelia J. Baines (MD, MSc) is a Professor Emeritus at the Epidemiology division of the Department of Public Health Sciences, University of Toronto. She is also an advisor to EvidenceNetwork.ca, an online resource aimed at assisting the media covering health policy issues within the Canadian health system.
Dr. Baines was co-principle investigator and deputy director of the Canadian National Breast Screening Study, a major trial of breast screening that enlisted 90,000 women across Canada in the 80s. She has closely followed screening outcomes research since then. Baines has also been involved in research respecting silicone breast implants and multiple chemical sensitivity.
Her current research interests include topics such as the efficacy of breast cancer screening and the influence of conflicts of interest on health policy.
