The Alumni of Victoria College (AVC) congratulates the three winners of the 2017 Victoria College Emerging Leader Award, Ige Egal, Elise Paradis and Tasha Schumann. This award recognizes recent graduates, 35 years of age or under, who have excelled professionally or who have notable accomplishments in their work or volunteer service, such as community work, humanitarianism and philanthropy. Join the Vic community to honour and celebrate the winners of the Victoria College Emerging Leader Award at a reception hosted by the AVC Executive.

In 2011 Ige Egal Vic 0T9 took an opportunity to help build and establish the Toronto Inner-City Rugby Foundation (TIRF), where he currently serves as the executive director. Since then, over 60,000 children and youth have been introduced to the game. In his role Egal bridges the worlds of the financial, non-profit, and education sectors using the values of rugby to foster caring and compassionate citizens by providing learning and personal development opportunities. These include scholarship, leadership development, and meaningful employment opportunities through TIRF. Egal is also involved in additional mentorships beyond TIRF and serves as a board member for the MLSE LaunchPad, a place where youth facing barriers use sport to recognize and realize their potential.

Elise Paradis Vic 0T6 is a faculty member at U of T’s Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy. She is an emerging leader in the research area of healthcare teamwork and education for collaboration. She also won the 2017 MuchMusic Video Award for Best Hip Hop Video and was the first female artist to win in this category. Schumann has worked hard to serve at-risk youth through the Beats Mind Movement, HoneyJam and Manifesto.
