Vic Reach Applications and Program Updates

During the 2023-2024 school term, the Vic Reach Program has updated our applications to allow for our applicants to be considered for admission into our program based on a more holistic evaluation. In this year's application, there will be two new sections in our application that will now ask for you

  • Personal motivations and hopes, or lived experiences that indicate your qualifications and intent to apply to join our program.
  • Whether you have a pre-existing volunteer site connection (related to an education context) that you may like to attend as part of your term in the program.

By adding these changes to our application, The Vic Reach Program hopes to expand our reach to students who may benefit from having an experiential opportunity to learn, volunteer, and grow as potential educators!

Additionally, this year, all admitted Vic Reach volunteers will receive a Vic Reach Student Handbook outlining an in-depth explanation of our program requirements, volunteer guidelines, volunteer expectations, and a general volunteer FAQ section. This handbook will not be posted, please contact the Vic Reach Co-Coordinators for further details.

Vic Reach Info Session & Orientation Session

Please also note that The Vic Reach Program will be hosting two in-person Orientation Sessions, which are mandatory for all admitted volunteers on October 4th from either 11 a.m.-12 p.m. OR 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. The sessions will be located at Burwash Hall, 89 Charles St W. Volunteer Information

Students are expected to fulfill a minimum of 50 volunteer hours participating within their classroom or online volunteer site over the course of the academic year. On a weekly basis, students are required to attend their volunteer site for three hours or more in order to meet this program requirement.

We will be providing both in-person and exclusively online volunteer site for this academic year. Due to the number of applicants that apply to volunteer with the Vic Reach Program within the academic year we cannot guarantee that all accepted volunteers will be connected with an in-person volunteer site.

For further inquiries, please contact us at vic.reach@utoronto.ca.

We're looking forward to meeting you!

Police Record Check

Before applicants can be assigned to a posting, they must acquire a satisfactory police record check through the Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Students are expected to follow the procedures in place at their local police services in order to request a record check. As this can be a time-consuming process, it is encouraged for students to apply early in advance to ensure timely volunteer site.

Should the Police Services jurisdiction require a letter from the organization requesting the check, please contact Julia Forgie at julia.forgie@utoronto.ca.

If students require a Vulnerable Sector Screening from Toronto Police Services, please contact us at vic.reach@utoronto.ca to be given a “Consent to Disclosure” form.

PRESTO Reimbursement

Vic reach volunteers may apply to have their TTC expenses related to traveling to and from their volunteer site reimbursed by filling out and submitting the form below.

Note: to be eligible for reimbursement, volunteers must use PRESTO. Transfer slips will no longer be accepted.

Volunteers must provide:

  • Proof of travel by downloading and presenting your PRESTO Transaction History Report to confirm travel going to and returning from the school. Please note that transaction data is only available for three months, so keep track of your trips.

A Vic Reach Reimbursement Form can be provided upon request through email to the Vic Reach Co-Coordinators once your time at your volunteer site has been completed. Upon submitting this form along with your PRESTO Transaction History Report, your reimbursement will be forwarded for processing.
