Professor Mary Nyquist is a professor in the Department of English, the Women and Gender Studies Institute, and the Literary Studies Program in the University of Toronto. She has also served as director of the Women and Gender Studies Institute. Her teaching and research interests include the issues of colonialism, gender, racialization, and republicanism in early modern English literature; literature of revolution; post-colonial literature and critical race theory; women writers; feminist theory; and modern and contemporary poetry. In addition to teaching, Professor Nyquist has authored and edited several publications in her field, including essays on John Milton, Thomas Hobbes, and John Locke, and she has numerous works in progress. Furthermore, she is a published poet, which works featured in several Canadian journals. Professor Nyquist is also actively engaged in anti-racism and decolonization activities, and has organized psycho-education workshops for survivors of childhood abuse.
