Specialist in Renaissance Studies

The Specialist Program in Renaissance studies affords all the advantages that intensive, cross-disciplinary study of a single period can offer. As a consequence it can usefully be combined with Major and Minor programs in a wide variety of other fields: to cite only a few, Western European Languages and Literature, History, Political Science, Religious Studies, History of Science, Fine Art History and Music.

To acquire a Specialist in Renaissance Studies, you'll need to complete a total of 10.0 credits (no more than 1.0 credit at the 100 level), including:

  • at least 3.0 credits at the 300 level, and 
  • 1.0 credit at the 400 level
Mandatory Courses

You must complete REN440H1 - Florence and the Renaissance, after you've either completed REN240Y1Y or attained the instructor's permission.

Renaissance Studies Courses

You must complete 3.5 credits from:

You must complete 1.0 credit in History from:

You will need to complete 1.0 credit in Art from:

Research Courses

You must complete 1.0 credit in a Research Course. You may either complete:

  • a 299Y1 or 399Y1 course on a Renaissance Studies topic,
    or
  • REN392H1/​​REN392Y1 - Renaissance Studies Independent Study or REN492H1/REN492Y1 - Renaissance Studies Independent Study
Language Courses

You will need to complete 2.0 credits in languages relevant to Renaissance Studies – French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Latin, Ancient Greek, Polish, German (or other language courses with the permission of the Program Coordinator)

Only 1.0 credit may be at the introductory level (i.e. 100 level).

Major in Renaissance Studies

The Major Program in Renaissance studies affords all the advantages that intensive, cross-disciplinary study of a single period can offer. As a consequence it can usefully be combined with Specialist, Major, and Minor programs in a wide variety of other fields: to cite only a few, Western European Languages and Literature, History, Political Science, Religious Studies, History of Science, Fine Art History and Music.

General Requirements
To acquire a Major in Renaissance Studies, you'll need to complete a total of 6.0 credits (no more than 1.0 credit at the 100 level), including at least 2.0 credits at the 300+ level.

Minor in Renaissance Studies

The Minor Program in Renaissance Studies is particularly useful in introducing students specializing intensively in another area to the principles of interdisciplinary study in an historical field; it is a valuable support for many other Major and Specialist programs.

To acquire a Minor in Renaissance Studies, you'll need to complete a total of 4.0 credits (no more than 1.0 credit at the 100 level), including at least 1.0 credit at the 300+ level.
